THE RETURN: Poems, Thoughts, Contemplations
THE RETURN: Poems, Thoughts, Contemplations, is a poetry collection that reflects the imprints of decades of travels, experiences, and memories of the author Nina Katy Spanovangelis, born in Rizokarpasso, Cyprus. At the age of thirteen she joined her parents in Australia. Although Nina Katy has been away from Cyprus for decades, her love and connection with her Cypriot roots is very strong. She never forgot her Cypriot roots and her beloved Rizokarpasso, part of Northern Cyprus now occupied for 50 years.
The book is in three parts: Book One, KALEIDOSCOPE, covering a variety of subjects from the personal to the universal, the poet’s love and concern about the future of humanity and the planet. Book Two, ODE TO CYPRUS,describes Cyprus, the poet’s birthplace Rizokarpasso, and parts of Karpasia as far as Saint Andrew’s Monastery. Book Three, PORTRAITS of Rizokarpassians, describes her ancestors and other Rizokarpassians.
The title of the book is borrowed from the poem ‘The Return’ in the first book ‘Kaleidoscope’. The poem has a spiritual message addressed to the reader. The ‘Return’ also stands for the longing of the refugees to return to the occupied lands and their homes. The book has already been translated in English by the author, soon to be published. It is aimed for worldwide readership as well as the Greek diaspora, thus widening the knowledge of Cypriot cultural heritage, through literature and poetry – a cultural 'ambassador' in a form of a book.
Book Credentials: Premiere book launch (2019) under the auspices of the previous Minister of Culture. Book approved by the Ministry of Education, Cyprus, for the recommended reading to enrich the Middle School libraries, Cyprus (2020). Ministry of Education supports the distribution of the book to High Schools, Cyprus (2024).

“One thing only I ask of you,
to let out a sigh from deep within
with my name on your lips:
“Oh Rizokarpasso, my home.
Oh Rizokarpasso, my very own.”

“The poems transport you. The Harvesters combine simple folk and God. The poet’s childhood memories, mesh magically with the art of Van Gogh. The images come to life in a simple and magical way… The simplicity of these people's daily lives born out of the poet’s vision, is shaped into images through the poet’s eyes. The sickles embracing the wheat, just before harvesting it, is deeply moving - the movement and the sound like an orchestra. Unwritten Symphony and 46:10 … stark, sharp stories, yet they say so much. Just what one needs to read to find inner peace … And once more, the poet comes along to give knowledge and light through her poetry. If this is not the purpose of art, then what is?”
